What was happening?
Hi All
But what was happening? Must have been significant for a card to be made?

Re: What was happening?
No, I don't think it was anything significant, just a shot on an ordinary day on a pier. I guess they are moving a big metallic bridge or something like that.trieste1 ha scritto:Hi All

That is not a post-card, but just a photo taken from a small ship, probably just arrived at the very end of the South side of the Molo dei Bersaglieri (not Fratelli Bandiera, as somebody has inferred). It is not clear whether the gangway is being pulled away or being readied to be pushed on board.
It should be the arrival of a local passenger steamer, the bystanders do not look very excited. Only a policeman is looking towards the ship.
The building at the right is the Hangar 42 (1918), which after the reconstruction completed in 1930 is at the far end of the Stazione Marittima.
I cannot be precise with a date, but late ‘Twenties/early ‘Thirties I dare say, the Faro della Vittoria (1927) is already there to be seen and the uniforms of a member of the Milizia and of a policeman are also of that period of time. The same can be said of the ladies’ “cloche” hats.
Today, as you can see from the attached photos, the building is in very poor condition: let us hope that it will be restored soon, as I can gather from the local press.
Un caro saluto a tutti
Allogeno

To be or not to be a Postcard?
Hi
This is in fact a pastcard (see scan of back). Maybe some enterprising local photographer snapped people as they disembarked and turned the picture into a one of a kind card?

The back side of postcard sized photographic paper was always printed like postcards. So you cannot infer it is a postcard just because it has the pattern of a postard on its back.
I have hundreds of black and white postcard sized photos of my relatives, printed by my father and I, with that pattern on the back side.
