Trieste Update

Greetings everyone, it's been a while! Stopped in to see if there have been any new developments of note in Trieste. As you might remember it was the citta vecchia that I was most interested in. I also understand that the porto vecchio is to be redeveloped?
As always Thanks,
Derick

Wonderful pictures! It's good to see some progress in the citta vecchia and on the Palazzo Marenzi. Are there plans to build over the foundations (medieval or roman?) in the pictures, or is this going to be an archaeological park?

Seeing the extents of the Roman city under the modern one I am only stating the obvious when I say that the colle San Giusto is much like Rome's Capitoline Hill. Question is how far into the topography the remains go. I understand that a car park is planned for the residents of the citta vecchia. On...

Thanks everyone! Still more questions on my end. Were more excavations carried out on the Roman ruins along the via capitelli? I am refering to the columns and bases that were excavated a few years ago. It seems likely that there is much more lurking beneath the ground level. Has the restoration of ...

Multo interessante! One would imagine that more of the fortification system was not completely demolished, but incorporated into the fabric of the later city. I wonder if they will partially reconstruct this like the Tor Cucherna?
Grazie,

Zoom culex, Babatriestina, Everyone, The photographs are absolutely stunning!!! These photos have in fact enabled me to really appreciate the details of square that I did not pick up on earlier. My professor has asked me if people in Trieste consider the Piazza Unita or the Canale Grande the finer s...

Babatriestina and A Trieste forumers, I have already asked the members of the other Trieste site for their help in seeking pictures of the Piazza Unita. Forgive me for not asking here as well, I was perhaps a bit shy and did not wish to overstep my welcome with everyone who has been so helpful. That...

Yes, I have heard that in James Joyce's time there were several brothels in the Cavana area.

It is a great idea to bring students into the area. Are the buildings being built contextual to their surroundings?

Thanks Babatriestina! The ghetto, I understand, is mostly antique stores today, is this area in good shape? The uses and activities that take place in the other parts of the old city, are they mostly restaurants, bars, hotels and cottage industry? Also, I have been to other Italian cities where the ...

My Triestine friends, A few questions for you. I was wondering what street the Palazzo Argento is on, what era it was built and if you have any further pictures? Is this palazzo similiar to the Palazzo Marenzi that I believe has been restored? Also, is there any foot traffic through these streets no...

Thanks again Babatriestina!!! The pictures are terrific!!! You are lucky that you live in a city that offers so many different urban environments. I only hope that I am not inconveniencing you or putting you out of your way. The photo with the building under scaffolding, is that the old school that ...
