OMG! I've never seen it.[/b]
This is a mistake more common than it would seem to be.

The first time I came across it, some twenty years ago. was in a phrase: ....at least you should of told me...

Eventually it dawned on me that the writer meant to say: ...at least you should HAVE told me...

If you listen carefully, the words have and of have somewhat similar sound, and if the persons who write only have a scant knowledge of grammar...Bingo! That is what you get...of instead of have.... :-D

I cannot find where they spoke about "they was".

But I've found something about formal and informal greetings.

Reading a book, written by an American journalist, I found this phrase:

He suggested to the president that he go again etc.

I had the feeling of something missing, and I would have expected something like " he suggested to the president that he would go again". or some other verbe between.
is this simplified American English? like Italian where the subjunctive is vanishing?
the phrase above is, for me, in clash with the "consecutio temporum" if I can say so..

Altrimenti penserei a should!

Boh!!!!

( nb semmai condizionale: penso che andrei diventerebbe I think that I go ?
aspettiamo gli anglofoni

Re: Practice your English. Help and advice.

Even if that be true (e per me non è vero) it doesn't make any difference.
Even if that is true (e forse è vero) it doesn't ...

Il paragrafo 719 è dedicato al congiuntivo perifrastico
Congiuntivo potenziale
Vi scrivo perché sappiate che io sto bene
I am writing that you may know that I am well

Congiuntivo col should
Era inevitabile che ella soffrisse
It was inevitable that she should suffer

Congiuntivo con Will, would
Spero che egli venga domani
I hope he will come to-morrow

He wants me to go
....

(A. Manzoni, I promessi sposi, cap. XXXVIII)

Well, since this is the English section I try an explanation in my modest English

The text above is written by the journalist Bob Woodward , ( Watergate affair, do you remember?) in the recent book Obama's wars, the text a bit more complete is ( pag 126 ed Simon & Schuster):

"General Jones had gone to Afghanistan to make his own assessements. He suggested to the president that he go again, evaluate how the strategy was working and send a message to the generals..

I understand that:
1 general Jones was in Afganistan
2 he wanted to go there again himself ( not that he wanted the President in Afghanistan)

Do you think I got it right? How would you have said it?

The complete paragraph is much more clear and it seems correct. And yet, I'm not quite sure...

because it is said that gen. Jones has gone to Afghanistan, an then it is said "again" , I understand that he is suggesting that himself, not the President, had better to go to Afghanistan.

It's not the President that should go, but Gen. Jones who might advice the President that he (himself, General Jones) should go.

Basically, we should read:

General Jones had gone to Afghanistan to make his own assessements. He suggested to the president that he (General Jones):
1) go again,
2) evaluate how the strategy was working and
3) send a message to the generals..

A bit stilted, kind of journalistic style, but probably correct
